Lunar Breathing is documented as a Mythical SLAYER style with Moonfall, Moongaze, Moondance, Evening Moon and Misfortune. Its public moveset covers a reactive counter, a guardbreaking ranged slash, a long multi-hit combo, tracking projectiles and a large committed slash.
Lunar moveset
Moonfall
A counter that damages the opponent when Lunar is hit. Use it against a readable incoming action, not as an ordinary opener.
Moongaze
A guardbreaking slash sent forward after a short windup. The windup makes range and opponent commitment important.
Moondance
A six-hit sequence with two quick slashes, a pause, three more slashes and a large final slash. The pause is a timing checkpoint, not proof the whole string is guaranteed.
Evening Moon
Four projectiles that track toward the nearest player after a short windup. Test target selection carefully in groups.
Misfortune
A large forward slash after a short windup. Use a confirmed opening so size and spectacle do not hide the commitment.
The board card was updated recently, but exact damage, cooldowns, acquisition, resource cost and combo rules remain live-test fields.
Learn Moonfall first as a decision
Moonfall teaches the style’s most important distinction: a counter needs an incoming hit. Practice against a predictable single strike. Activate before the impact, observe whether the response triggers, and record what happens against multi-hit strings, guardbreaks or delayed attacks.
Do not spam the counter at neutral. A waiting opponent can let it expire and punish recovery. Use it when you have read a committed attack, then return to ordinary block or movement when the cue is unclear.
Use Moongaze against a real guard
Moongaze is documented to guardbreak after a windup. Create distance or a stun before using it. Against a moving target, the slash can miss even if its reach looks large. Test whether the current version turns, tracks or remains fixed after the windup.
If the opponent is not blocking, compare Moongaze with a faster option. Guardbreak value comes from answering defense, not from automatically being the highest-damage opener.
Treat Moondance as a staged string
Count the documented rhythm: two quick hits, a pause, three hits, then the final slash. Test whether the opponent can dash, block or parry during the pause. If the full route is not guaranteed, stop early or use it only after a stronger confirmation.
Near a wall, camera and knockback can change alignment. Practice in open space before assuming the same sequence works in every position. A six-hit animation is not automatically a six-hit combo.
Manage projectiles and target selection
Evening Moon is documented to track the nearest player. In a group, “nearest” can select a different target from the one you are watching. Create a clear lane and verify whether allies, neutral targets or vertical distance affect selection.
Use the tracking to pressure movement, not to surrender awareness. A target can still block, counter or reposition depending on the live rules. Save enough Breathing resource for a confirmed follow-up or escape.
Sword unlock and progression
The current FAQ directs players seeking the sword for Moon Breathing or Black Lightning to M → Character → Skills, then a bottom-right node that grants Blood Demon Art M1s. That wording crosses the Slayer/Demon terminology in an unusual way, so read the live node effect before spending points. Confirm the sword appears after unlocking.
Raise Breathing Level and complete gourd limit breaks at milestone levels. If Lunar is present on the roll screen but unavailable to your route, do not infer odds or acquisition from the Mythical label alone.
Common mistakes
- Throwing Moonfall without an incoming attack.
- Using Moongaze from too close and being interrupted during the windup.
- Assuming Moondance’s pause cannot be escaped.
- Letting Evening Moon select the wrong nearby player in a group.
- Spending points on an old node position without reading the current effect.
What still needs testing
Current obtainability, rarity odds, sword requirements, damage, cooldowns, tracking rules, counter eligibility and combo gaps need live confirmation. The public card supports the move names and broad roles, not a “best style” claim.
Sources and confidence
Move descriptions come from the SLAYER public Trello Lunar Breathing card, last activity observed October 27, 2026. The sword-node route comes from the same board’s FAQ and should be checked against the current skill tree.
