Breathing Level is the Slayer-side progression used to unlock moves in your selected Breathing Style. The current public card says it increases by using already unlocked Breathing moves, performing Breathing training in the Slayer hideout, and completing other hideout trainings. At multiples of five, progress stops until a gourd minigame limit break is completed.
Raise the level through move use
Equip a compatible blade, fill the Breathing resource and use a move you have already unlocked. Record the level or progress before and after several valid uses. Do not count attempts that fail because the weapon, resource or target condition is missing.
Use the move during real combat only when it is safe. Repeating a long committed skill at neutral can lose more progress time to defeat than a shorter confirmed route.
Use Slayer hideout training
Find the current Breathing training and other Slayer stations in the hideout. Public-test coverage describes rhythm-style breathing training, while the current card points to a gourd interaction. Read the live cost and expected reward before starting.
Complete one run and record the gain. Costs, rounds and EXP have appeared with specific values in public tests, but they can change. Use the current result rather than an older number.
Diagnose a multiple-of-five cap
The card explicitly lists level milestones such as 5, 10, 15 and 20. When progress stops at a multiple of five, go to the documented gourd in the Slayer hideout and start its limit-break minigame.
Do not keep paying for ordinary training while capped. Confirm the exact level, complete the gourd activity, then perform one normal gain action and verify that progress resumes.
Separate level, bar and normal EXP
Breathing Level unlocks style moves. The Breathing bar is the combat resource refilled during play. Normal EXP advances general progression. A full bar does not unlock a move, and a code that grants normal EXP does not automatically complete a Breathing limit break.
When a move fails, check all three systems plus the weapon. This avoids treating an empty bar or wooden blade as a level bug.
Plan unlock order
Unlock a reliable starter or short action first, then a guardbreak, counter, movement tool or ender based on the style. Do not spend every point on the deepest node before you have a usable route.
Read the style page for move roles: Flame, Lunar, Water or Thunder. Exact node requirements remain live-interface facts.
Efficient practice record
Write current Breathing Level, progress, unlocked moves, weapon, training cost and one gain result. At a cap, add the gourd minigame result. This record reveals whether move use, training or limit breaking is the missing step.
Keep clan, perks and global event boosts noted. A title suffix such as [2X EXP] does not prove that Breathing Level gains are doubled.
Common mistakes
- Confusing the Breathing resource bar with Breathing Level.
- Repeating paid training at a multiple-of-five cap.
- Attempting a form with the wooden starter blade.
- Using a locked move and expecting it to level itself.
- Assuming normal EXP or a global boost applies to this system.
- Buying every form before learning a stable combat route.
Session check before you leave
End a training session by opening the style tree and recording the exact next requirement. Confirm that the progress bar moved, the current level is not sitting on a limit-break milestone, and the intended form is equipped on the hotbar. Then perform the shortest unlocked move once with the Nichirin equipped and enough Breathing resource. This separates a progression failure from a hotbar, weapon or resource problem. If a global EXP event is active, compare the same action after the event ends before claiming it changes Breathing Level; the title alone does not define the boost’s scope.
Sources and confidence
The progression sources and milestone limit-break pattern are community reported from the SLAYER public Trello Breathing Level card, last activity observed October 26, 2026. Public-test coverage supports hideout training and the Nichirin gate. Exact gains, costs, level cap and minigame rules require live verification.
