Black Lightning is documented as a Rare Blood Demon Art with Angry Blitz, Lightning Field, Rumble and Flash, Spinning Thrust and Distant Thunder. It combines approach, persistent space control, spread projectiles, a conditional sword sequence and a guardbreaking dash.
Moveset roles
Angry Blitz
Dash forward before delivering a kick. Measure range and recovery before treating it as a safe neutral starter.
Lightning Field
Call repeated strikes on one location to create a lasting damage area. Use it to control space, not to assume a mobile target will remain inside.
Rumble and Flash
Fire three consecutive blasts in slightly different directions. Position so the spread covers movement rather than diluting all three shots.
Spinning Thrust
Stab forward; if the first hit lands, follow with two hits and throw the enemy away. The first-hit condition is the key confirmation.
Distant Thunder
Wind up, dash forward, deal damage and guardbreak. Save it for a visible guard or committed target.
Unlock the documented sword
The current FAQ says to open M → Character → Skills, find the bottom-right node that grants Blood Demon Art M1s, and unlock it. That node is documented as granting the sword for Black Lightning and Moon Breathing.
Read the live node effect before spending points because tree positions can move. Confirm the weapon appears and that Spinning Thrust or other sword actions become usable. If the node name or location differs, follow the current effect rather than the old screen position.
Control space with Lightning Field
Place the field where the opponent must act: a narrow route, wake-up area, objective or end of a confirmed knockback. The card says lightning strikes the same location four times, so a moving target can leave. Use the repeated area to force movement, then cover the exit with another option.
Test whether the field affects allies, whether it guardbreaks, and how long it persists. Do not assume any of those properties from the visual effect alone.
Confirm Spinning Thrust
The move’s follow-up depends on the first stab landing. Practice at fixed range and watch whether blocking, parrying or movement interrupts the sequence. If the first hit misses, recover rather than queuing another attack blindly.
The final throw creates distance. Decide in advance whether to reset, place Lightning Field, or use a ranged option. A short-range follow-up may fail simply because the move succeeded.
Use spread and dash deliberately
Rumble and Flash sends three blasts in different directions. At long range, the spread can cover a lateral dodge; at close range, fewer blasts may align. Test target size and distance. Angry Blitz reaches forward but is not documented as a guardbreak, while Distant Thunder is. Choose based on defense, not only movement.
Distant Thunder has a windup. Use it when the target is blocking or recovering. If the guard drops and the target moves, do not assume the dash will track.
Progression and perks
Raise Blood Level, complete heart limit breaks at multiples of five, and unlock art nodes. The public BDA perk card documents a Black Lightning/Thunder Dragon first-hit bonus. Test the base move and perk separately, keeping clan, stats and target constant.
Common mistakes
- Buying the wrong skill node without reading its current effect.
- Placing Lightning Field where the opponent can leave without sacrificing position.
- Assuming all three spread blasts hit one target.
- Forgetting Spinning Thrust needs its first stab to connect.
- Using Distant Thunder as an unconfirmed neutral dash instead of a guardbreak.
Test the kit at three distances
At close range, confirm Spinning Thrust and observe the throw distance. At mid-range, place Lightning Field where the target must cross and cover the exit with a measured option. At longer range, test how Rumble and Flash spreads and whether Angry Blitz or Distant Thunder actually reaches. Use fixed landmarks for every trial. The goal is to discover which action owns each distance, not to force one dash to solve the whole matchup. Repeat after unlocking the sword so weapon-gated behavior is not confused with range failure.
Sources and confidence
Move roles come from the SLAYER public Trello Black Lightning card, last activity observed October 26, 2026. The sword-node route comes from the public FAQ. Damage, cooldowns, field duration, tracking, weapon requirements and acquisition odds require live testing.
