SLAYER’s tutorial teaches a clear combo idea: use a grounded action to create an airborne state, then follow before the target recovers. Current PC coverage shows Ctrl + M1 for uppercut and Space + M1 after the launch for downslam. The useful skill is confirmation, not memorizing a long string.
Practice uppercut
Stand at reliable M1 range and land the grounded starter. Add Ctrl to the M1 input for uppercut only after the first contact is confirmed. Watch the target’s height and your own movement. If uppercut whiffs, stop rather than continuing an air route against empty space.
Repeat until you can identify the contact cue. Latency can make visual and input timing differ, so practice in the server you plan to use.
Add downslam
After the uppercut launches, hold Space and press M1 while aligned with the airborne target. The follow-up depends on height, timing and position. If it fails, change one factor: press later, move closer under the target, or shorten the delay after the uppercut.
Do not mash Space and M1 throughout the launch. A deliberate follow-up makes the failure point visible and reduces accidental jumps or ordinary attacks.
Guardbreak before the combo
Use R against a visibly blocking opponent. Guardbreak creates a route only if it lands and the recovery permits a follow-up. Test a short M1 or uppercut after the break, then measure whether the target can escape.
Ability guardbreaks can replace the basic option at different ranges, but they may cost Breathing or Blood and have longer windups. Use the least expensive reliable answer.
Add one ability by role
Choose an ability that serves one function: starter, launcher, extender, guardbreak, projectile, counter or ender. Do not add it only because the animation looks strong. Test whether the target can block, parry or dash between the normal route and the skill.
For example, Rising Scorching Sun is documented as an air launcher, while Blooming Flame and Water Wheel end with knockback. Thunderclap and Distant Thunder are guardbreak approaches. Moonfall is a counter and should not be inserted as an ordinary extender.
Know when to reset
A combo ends when the target can act, your resource is empty, the next move cannot reach, or your position becomes unsafe. Dash out, restore spacing and return to defense. Resetting before a reversal is part of a successful route.
Knockback often creates a natural reset. Do not chase automatically with a short move. Use the distance for breathing, a projectile, a field or a fresh neutral read when safe.
Verify a true link
Use a cooperative target or repeatable NPC and test each transition. A link is stronger when the target cannot block, parry, dash or use an escape between steps. Repeat under the same latency and position. One successful clip is not proof.
Walls, slopes and server load can change alignment. Test open space and boundaries. Label a route as practical or conditional when it depends on a wall, perk, stun or specific move hit.
Solo and squad differences
In a group, another player’s knockback or launch can break your alignment. Shorten commitments and watch the target state. A long barrage can hold the camera while another enemy attacks from outside view.
Squad routes should prioritize clear roles: one player creates the opening, another confirms damage, and everyone avoids overlapping knockback. Do not assume a solo string remains stable with several players hitting at once.
Common mistakes
- Inputting uppercut without confirming grounded contact.
- Mashing downslam instead of tracking the airborne state.
- Using guardbreak when the opponent is not blocking.
- Adding a counter as if it were a normal extender.
- Spending the full resource bar with no exit.
- Calling a wall-dependent or latency-sensitive route universal.
A useful combo record
Write starter, state change, follow-up, resource cost, ending position and escape test. Add server date and any required clan or perk. This record survives balance changes better than a raw button list because it explains why the route works.
Use Controls for input lookup, Parry for defensive openings, and the selected style or art page for move roles.
Sources and confidence
Uppercut, downslam, block, parry, guardbreak and breathing inputs are community corroborated by current public-test coverage. Exact windows, controller glyphs, damage scaling and guaranteed links require current in-game verification.
